How to choose a motorcycle battery disconnect switch
With the bike switched off, the ECU, the clock, the alarm or a tracker keep drawing current. After a few weeks parked the battery may not have enough power to start the engine, and repeated deep discharges reduce its capacity for good. A disconnect switch cuts that drain. There are four types:
Screw-on, on the terminal
Cheap and drain-free, but you have to reach the battery every time: tools, seat off and, on many bikes, covers to remove.
Wireless with a remote
Convenient, but the receiver has to listen for the remote all the time, so it keeps draining the battery: exactly what you wanted to avoid.
Conventional relay and push-button
Operated with a button, no tools, but they keep drawing current while the bike is parked.
The W89 system, new and patented
It also works with a relay and buttons: you cut and restore power with a button, no tools. It is a new system with a granted patent, and once cut it draws nothing (0 W). The most convenient option if your bike sits for days or weeks.
B01 or B02: which one
- W89 B01 battery disconnect switch: both buttons sit in a mount for 22 mm handlebars, always within reach.
- W89 B02 battery disconnect switch: separate buttons to fit wherever you like: under the seat, on the frame or on a panel. Also the one to choose if your handlebar is 1 inch.
Both are also available in your colours, with each button colour chosen by you.
Frequently asked questions
Will it fit my bike?
It works on motorcycles and vehicles with a 12 V battery. It is not for 6 V systems. If you are unsure about your model, write to us and we will confirm before you buy.
What about the clock and the alarm?
Cutting the battery switches everything off, including the clock and the alarm. That is why it makes sense when the bike will sit for a few days.
Is it better than a battery maintainer?
If you have a socket next to the bike, a maintainer is a great option. If you park on the street or in a garage without power, a disconnect switch is the simplest. We compare them in how to stop your motorcycle battery from draining.
